What not to overlook when planning your next fundraiser... When considering ideas for your next fundraiser, be certain to look at all of the costs involved, including total volunteer time and the type of effort required. Some do-it-yourself fundraisers seem especially attractive at first glance since many costs are hidden. However, small costs associated with advertising and delivery, or the rental of equipment and space, can quickly add up. Most overlooked is the number of volunteers needed and the amount of effort required from this group. When it comes to fundraisers, many groups worry about supporter fatigue. However, volunteer fatigue needs to be considered as well.

Where to find your largest market... If you're a school group, than you are already amongst your largest market - the student body. Not suprisingly, most students purchase products on a daily basis, including food and school supplies. Your group can easily offer these products on an on-going basis in your cafeteria, in a school store, or even in vending machines. Popcorn and lemonade sales are always popular at lunchtime, and what student isn't constantly in need of school supplies? But don't just sell any old supplies. Sell pencils, pens, folders, bookbags, etc. with your school's name, colors and mascot. These are products that won't be available elsewhere, giving your group a competitive advantage.

How to leverage often overlooked resources... As a school group you have access to some very valuable resources in the form of your school's facilities and equipment. A lot of schools currently host family movie nights. But why stop there? Your school can offer family gym nights, family swim nights, or with the help of older student volunteers, group babysitting services. Classrooms with audio / visual equipment and / or computers can be used to host seminars and training sessions conducted by parent volunteers. Just remember to keep all activities as simple as possible. Programs that require minimal volunteer effort can be held more frequently.
